Even after being in remission, there is still a chance for endometrial cancer to return. Studies show the cancer is more likely to recur within 3 years after treatment. The likelihood increases with higher stage at diagnosis - for stage 1 it's 6.5%, stage 2 is 20%, stage 3 is 37.5%, and stage 4 is 66.7%. Other risk factors are older age and if cancer spread to cervix or ovaries initially. High grade tumors also have higher recurrence rates. New treatments are helping people with recurrent endometrial cancer live longer. Immunotherapies combined with chemo have been shown in trials to stop cancer growth and spreading. Make sure to talk openly with your doctor to understand your prognosis and available treatment options.
